About Us
Mock Trial at the University of Arizona, competing nationally since 2002, is an institution focused on improving speaking and critical thinking skills through a simulated court environment. As a program familiar with national-caliber competition, we pride ourselves on a refined understanding of the Rules of Evidence and our ability to argue a clear, coherent case. Students of all majors and interests are encouraged to participate. No prior experience is necessary! Just bring a positive attitude and a desire to learn. You will enjoy every minute of Mock Trial!
What is Mock Trial?
Mock Trial is a combination of speech, debate, and acting. Students take on the roles of witnesses and attorneys to simulate a trial. Each year the American Mock Trial Association prepares a legal case with witness statements, case law, statutes, and other exhibits. In the first few months of the academic year, teams throughout the United States analyze the case and create arguments for both the plaintiff/prosecution and the defense. Every team has three attorneys and three witnesses and each student is assigned a role: witness, attorney, or both. Teams then compete throughout the remainder of the year by arguing their cases in courtroom settings.
Competitions send our teams all across the country in places such as New York, Seattle, Las Vegas, Chicago, Washington D.C., Orlando, and Los Angeles. So, if you are looking to travel the country and have fun in the process, Mock Trial is the club for you!

Fall Fling
Fall Fling at the University of Arizona will be the pinnacle point of the fall semester. Fall Fling is an after hours event that is meant to supply the University of Arizona campus with fun games, shopping, and activities. It also allows students to socialize at the beginning of the school year and allow clubs to have a spotlight. The University of Arizona Undergraduate Mock Trial Program plans to host the first annual University of Arizona Fall Fling. On November 16th, 2024, starting at 3 in the afternoon, a festival will be taking place in the heart of the University of Arizona. The undergraduate mock trial program has been a part of the university for over two decades. Mock Trial is a law oriented activity that consists of learning about different forms of law, rules of evidence, and courtroom presentation. The primary focus of the organization is improving speaking and critical thinking skills through a simulated court environment. Over the course of the school year they compete nationwide within a courtroom setting against some of the top programs in the country. The University of Arizona Mock Trial has been a leading group within the activity nationwide, holding many regional and national titles. The undergraduate program is using this as their main fundraiser of the year. Over the course of their competition season they spend over $100,000 on travel, competition fees, and lessons. They are inviting the people of Tucson to come share a happy time with them and enjoy all of the festivities. This year they plan to host “Fall Fling”, a night market and festival on the main campus mall. Food vendors and small businesses from across Tucson will be invited to share their goods with the students and faculty at the university. There will also be carnivals style games, a petting zoo, and jumping castles that are fun by the club itself.
